Personally I like the non-random encounters it makes getting around so much faster than taking 10 steps oh there we go again another battle. Also its pointless to say omg that thing is huge I won’t go near it bah go and have a crack at it, in all the years I’ve been playing the final fantasy series not once have I not been able to get to the stuff I want if I die e.g. big scary thing kills me I go off and level up came back and kill it I’m sure most of you are the same also if you are too scared then use a Deceptisol which makes it easy to moved around close to mobs.

As far as the visuals I think they are great I’m currently 45hrs and love everything I’m seeing, were I am atm having the creatures on the map is what really makes the visuals spectacular

You know you actually have the option of running away, right? in FF 12 you can at least choose when you want to battle and what. What if you explored and met that t-rex out of no where and died. There goes your data. I prefer FF 12's battle system than anything else because I can enjoy running around and not really getting tense about a sudden monster popping up. Yeah I don't do well under pressure. At least if you're weak you can avoid monsters at all cost to get to a save crystal safely. Plus it also makes leveling so slow when you have to wait a few moments for it to load to the battle and then back to your screen. And how does it deter you form looking at the environment? I just walk anywhere and let them auto attack as I enjoy the scenery. In my opinion its helps you enjoy it more because you aren't all anxious waiting for some crap monster to pop out at you. Then you can't even enjoy the graphics because your all fired up to battle. You concentrate more on the artwork than you do on playing and that's how I like playing games that aren't strategy based.

Okay, so having random encounters is not crap nor old. The battle systems along with the storylines MADE final fantasy popular. As the company is progressing the battle systems seem to be gettinb weaker. FF12 was a very dissapointing battle system. Seeing monsters on screen takes away from the mystery of the game. And i agree with Electric about 12, bad. Seeing enemies on screen is pointless. Bringing back the random encounters for the original FF feel and throw away this new garbage battle system

3 things:

1st why cant they just put a thing at the start of the game, where u could choose random encounters or on screen encounters. I mean they had the board thing at the start of FF X where u could choose the beginners board to lvl up on or the advanced board. Seems like a lot of hassle if u ask me, having no choice in the matter. i mean would it have been so hard to put an algorithim for random battles in the game if the user decides so or put the on screen monsters,

2nd the battle system seems to have elements from FF VIII, IX, X-2, and XII in it.
FF VIII as there are no on screen magic points.
FF IX as it seems 2 people can attack at the same time.
FF X-2 as the people in the battles are able to move, but whether or not the player can control this movement in some way, we will just have to wait for.
FF XII as guests seem to be able join the party at certain points, and because as we all know you can see the monsters on the screen.

3rd the graphics look alot like the last remnant but ive not seen anyone menion this. But regardless I cant wait for the game as im getting a new HD tv just to play it on!!!!!!!!! : )

DarkDevil,

The battle system so far seems to be a hybrid combo between FFX and FFXII. You don't control all of the characters like 12 and the player characters and enemies move around the battle field like 12 but you still have the active time system like 10 and a separate battle screen like 10.

It is not, however, like Crisis Core.
