Story
The world of Final Fantasy 13 is split into two very different parts. One part is a floating, mechanical city called Cocoon, which has also been described as a space colony. Cocoon is home to a few million people. These people of Cocoon are frightened of the other part of the world which is outside of the city, a place called Pulse.
Anyone who comes into contact with Pulse are believed to be part of a plot to invade Cocoon. These people are banished from the protection of the city by the “holy” government and their army. The people in black/blue clothes on the train in the E3 2006 trailer were being quarantined because they had come into contact with Pulse.
In the city of Cocoon, the people are protected by crystals and so can live peacefully. The crystals can create machines and living creatures. The city is even known to have been created by a Crystal.
The director of Final Fantasy 13, Motome Toriyama, has said the relationship between Cocoon and Pulse can be thought of as this: First, there was Pulse, a dangerous world where people reside under the fear of monster attack. Cocoon was made when the crystals considered what would be an appropriate living space for people forced to reside in the world of Pulse.
The crystal has chosen Lightning to bring an end to the world. When she was chosen she became an enemy of the Human Race and was believed to bring destruction to the world.

FFXII had a crap storyline, this much is true. But I, personally, loved the Battle System. :)
Gambits was an awesome idea; really unique (and allows you to become amazing if you have the right stuff for it).

story and characters is what makes a FF game unique. without that there is no reason to play imo. fuck gambits and its lame as hell chess board level ups.
I hear so much about what sucked on different games, yet so far from what I have seen we all played them so they cannot be all that bad. Personally though I understand likes and dislikes. I enjoyed FF XII, but then for various reasons I have enjoyed most all the games and that is why we are going to see an FF XIII and a FF XIV. From the story line that has been revealed for FF XIII I suspect I will enjoy it as well. There are parts of each game that I feel could be changed but each game is unique in some form or fashion and FF XIII will be the same, we cant all love every aspect of the game some liked the gambit board and others didn’t others of us loved the combat system in VIII while others despised it and loved FF XII’s combat system. I have issues with every game so far but I still give kudos for each game because despite some of the flaws and parts that lacked each game has been great… well ok save XI ….lol .. ok ok.. so I didnt care for online FF it had its good points I just failed to find them. And over all I think the storyline here is going to be great I am all hyped and ready to get on with the game.

Oh god! I have to dissagree that 12 was the best in the series, I think that statment is a bit over the top.
However this site is about FF13 and 13s story. Hmm this forum is pointless. How are we meant to comment on the story of 13 when it hasnt been released? I mean their not going to tell us the plot. No wonder this has turned into a 12 dissing session.

the gambits are nice and i love at the middle off the game when you can just run to the monsters and youre peaple just heal and cure every single status and helt probs xD
I have to agree, somewhat with enjoyzecrumpets… however, the “hunts” idea was a good one…now if only they added in an actual mini game to it (like the arcade in ff7, the card games from ff8/ff9 or blitzball from ff10) then ff12 probably would have been better
Also, I disagree about the whole bad voice acting, personally I think it was much better done in 12 than in 10 (ffx’s voice acting sucked) and the movie sequences were much smoother and, imo, better looking in 12…I would know pretty well considering i put over 200 hours into ff12…(i’ve put over 500 hours into ff7, over 350 into ff8 and about 150 into ff10)…They’re all good for certain things…materia is undeniably the best thing ever, junctioning was interesting b/c it was different, blitzball was insane…and the hunts in 12 added a new/different kind of challenge
But as EnjoyZeCrumpets said, this is supposed to be about ff13, not 10 or 12…and as long as the game has some form of workable mini-game, good cg work throughout the game, the massively beautiful artwork that has become standard in all ff games, some form of summons, magic and fantastical weapons…who cares about voice acting? it’s a game…not a movie…

I personally thought 12 was enjoyable, if not the greatest game ever. I will agree that it had bad voice acting, and I didn’t really like the license board either. Definately not the best in the series(lol), but at least it’s not as bad as X-2 or Dirge. There, I gave my opinion, and I didn’t insult anybody. What a concept. btw I realize that most posts made on this board were made last year, but what the hell, I felt like saying something.
Ok, i Just pass 25 hour in ff13, and I dont like this game that much. I do like the battle system , the graphic design and interface… what I dont, id the character development, the … terrible voice acting.. the story in general, the character cohesion , the realistaion of the cutscene and their need to put a comic relief every where they can include 1. I explain.
From the begining, its always the same story for all final: bunch of people, trap in tyranical world have to join up to fight their way trough and escape the big city, wich they ill come back in eventually. In ff13, all the character are in a way pathetic. First of all, we have Snow, who is a wannabe cool-hero-kick-ass always yelling about something. he made some cool as ice move and have the little sentence for every situation to bee cooler. yo man, hero is n the way. maaaan.
We also have the afro man, cause we always need 1 in all final. who is, in a way, sometime funny. And, beside some pedophile call, he make me laugh a couple of time.. He would did that more often if he didnt have a damn BABY CHOCOBO in is hair… .. i mean wtf.. yhea its cute but WHY?
We also have the little crying boy who is alway depress, and try hard to find a parental figure to blame him for is failure. He doesnt talk much.. and tanks cause his voice is creepy.
We have lightning, whos is our hero who doesnt have much personality. As all ff hero, she search her identity, doesnt talk much, is bored and react of what happen to her beside taking action and position.
And we have the baddest char ever who irritate me as hell; Vanille. And Jap love her cause she is in EVERY damn cutscene always curving, flatting her butt, yelling some funny words or orgasmic sound. She is like the jar jar binks of star wars, always here to trying hard to put a smile on our face and fail miserably. I hate those kind of retard teen in g-string trying the make us beleive they can weild a 2 handed sword. She doesnt bring anything to the story. everything she said is totaly pointless and it piss me off when other char just act like it was perfectly OK..
I will probably never understand the japanese mentality, but i certainely dont get why they try to mix so much style in the realisation of their cutscene, and particulary in ff13. Dont get me wrong, animation and industrial design are awsome.. but I get a real problem with the realisation and the story where its come to the linear action. They try everystyle and switch to one to the other witouth any reason.. Sometime a western music ill strart for no reason, the emotion are too hight when there is no reason to andothetime, there is none when it should have plenty. The romance and the drama are omnipresent, but it switch to action witouth any transition. add sci-fi and fantasy (of course). With all this, the story is make on the spot to fill it with all the style we can fit in… even if it mean some cutscene are totaly pointless.. if they add a style to it, its a go.. and seriously, there is no tangible point to stick ..
I do not recommend this game to anyone, and sadly, Ill wait for the versus, hoping the chat development will be more intersting than those
Hello. Im Ending FFXIII(46 Hours). I think the voice acting, in english it’s good. You can listen to lightning acting good in several spots.
I think, that this is a good example on how a dubbed(Japanese to English) can be , good. Sazh, the black guy it’s well acted too (He can’t speak Japanese, come on! , he must have an american Accent), and the only one that i didn’t like the voice was the girl “sunshine” Vanille, also contributed that i didn’t like her personality too. But that’s a subjetive fact.

The story its pretty good too.
The game its worth, not the best of the series. FF7, FF8 are better(Don’t know if FF10 but maybe), but this one its pretty good anyway.
