Announced June 2nd, Square-Enix revealed the next in their flagship series, Final Fantasy XIV. Unlike most of the series, however, Final Fantasy XIV takes after Fantasy Fantasy XI in being an MMO RPG, playable only online. According to the trailer released in SE’s press conference, as well as a short press announcement afterwards, it seems Final Fantasy XIV will be available only forPlaystation 3 and PC. SE announced their plan was to release XIV in a worldwide simultaneous release sometime in 2010, which would be an improvement from XI, where the game became available in JP, NA, and EU with months in between the release in each region. This is the first time that two chornological Final Fantasy games are planned to be released in the same year.

How exactly do the games like this work. i don’t understand why it has to be played online through a game system, I think that’s so stupid. What PS3 should I get for FF13, I really want one but I don’t know which one to get. I want one that will play PS2 games also, but I heard that that system isn’t made anymore. Please help!?!?!
Man I hate the fact that you have to play these games online, but even more irritating or perhaps not to everyone I just don’t have that type of lifestyle where i can invest that many hours, i have an older brother who is a hardcore gamer and he mentioned spending approximately 1500 + hours on final fantasy 11 alone! seriously if you have that much time on your hands your kind of a looser! but what i really want to know is why the fuck there are two final fantasy 13 games to be released and neither one has come out yet but there are already talk of the 14th installment!?

Nik, what the hell does it matter if they haven’t come close to releasing 13 yet? The games are made by two separate teams working on two separate games. One really doesn’t impact the other, and both are slated for a 2010 release.
Josh, games like this work by hosting a persistent and constant online world in which you play as a character that inhabits that world. You know…RPG…”role playing game.” It has to be played online because otherwise none of the other characters would be real people, they would all just be computer bots, and you couldn’t interact with them. The idea of an off-line MMORPG is stupid, not playing these games online “through a game system.”
Matador, I know…using the internet is such a hassle. You have to wait for it to dial up, you can only play on PC, etc. Oh wait…no you don’t, so STFU and quit whining. MMORPG’s, like your PS3 I might add, are DESIGNED to play online, so no one really cares if you hate the fact that gaming isn’t circa 1995 anymore. I bet you think 3D graphics suck too? The time commitment is what you make it. You really don’t have to play an MMO any more or less than you would another game. The difference is that you CAN play an MMO more because there is infinitely more content. Stop being a “looser” yourself and expand your horizons.
but I think that’s so stupid. Why not just call it “world of Fantas, and kinda being like a ripoff of “World of Warcraft” because that’s basically what this game is turning into!
But come on, man. There are tons of MMORPG’s out there. Just because World of Warcraft is the most notorious doesn’t mean all the other ones are rip-offs. I’ve never touched WoW in my life, and never intend to, but I played Star Wars Galaxies for a bit and enjoyed it, and I played Final Fantasy IX for a bit and enjoyed it. I’m a prime example of someone who did not have a lot of time to devote to the game, but I played it the same amount that I’d play any game, and enjoyed it equally as much.
If you don’t like Genre, then fair enough, but understand that there are those of us who are equally excited for a traditional RPG like Final Fantasy XIII as well as a new Final Fantasy themed MMO like Final Fantasy XIV. XIII looks stunning, and the idea of being able to play with both my brother and my girlfriend in XIV is awesome to me. I love multi-player gaming, be it an MMO or Killzone 2. Reminds me of my youth when all my friends and I would get together and play Goldeneye or Super Smash Brothers for hours at a time.
See I cannot wait for FF13 and FFVS13, they look to be awesome. But I’ve never really understood the online gaming, and I think that’s due to the fact that I don’t like computers that much. Give me a gaming system anyday.
But FFXIV is coming to PS3…
I know, but…. it’s taking forever! There still hasn’t been official release dates for the games yet either. I alos want to get FF13 Agito for the PSP. I’m getting a PSP next month with the FF dissidia bundle, and I cannot wait to play that and crisis core

People here are kinda how you say it ‘stupid’ you dont have to play FF14 online if you dont want to…. no ones gonna force you and besaids just like David said FF13 and FF14 are made by TWO DIFFERENT teams which mean they have nothing to do with eachother whatsoever and FF14 is pointed to PS3 players since there are tons of people playing PS3 games online just like WoW and such on PC. If you own a box and dont have ps3 you dont have to come and TROLL/FLAME here abaut how stupid this is and such.. hell you dont even have the platform its coming out on so why the hell should you care..? (IF you dont have ps3 that is)
Putting that asaid FF14 just takes advantage of Online adaptor built inside ps3 unlike box and ps2 where you have to buy one to get online. Theres not much to it actually and sure maybe FF online aint that popular as rest are but there will always be someone to play it and Im going to test it out as it comes to see what FF online is actually abaut since I didnt have online adaptor on ps2. So if you dont own a ps3 dont flame something you wont naturally get and if you want to get it and cant cos ps3 might be too expensive for you or other financial problem .. get a job TROLLING/FLAMING wont do any good…

I don’t understand your problem. I had a question about how the online games work, and if you have such a “BIG” problem with it, *GET OVER YOURSELF”. Maybe I want to try the game out, maybe that’s why I’m asking other people, you’re just so ignorant, that it is unbelievable. Also, I’m looking towards getting a PS3, and you know what, they are pretty expensive. I’m like the average American, and I’m in the financial spiral just as most Americans are. So why don’t you mind your own business. I’ve been asking for people’s advice on what the MMO games are like and which PS3 to get. I love the Final Fantasy games, and maybe I just wanted someone else’s opinion. Thank goodness I didn’t “ask” for yours!

oh, but some things you’re right Vic.. it has to be said.. People who don’t want to play the game, don’t have to. And there are indeed people who love MMOs, and don’t think they are spin-offs of WoW (by the way: WoW wasn’t the first MMO.. So maybe WoW is a spin-off? No, it isn’t, so the others neither, MMO is just a genre. Racing games are neither spin-offs of eachother…)
I’ve read your comment again Vic, your means are good, but the way you say it, you attack other people, so they won’t listen to you, and they will defend themselves.. Try to not attack the others but use damn good arguments and they WILL listen :P

Since online play is free on PS3, the PC version should be free online or I’m ganna be pissed!
They’re probably still gonna make you pay for it. With the PS3, you have to buy the game and then the gamplay online is free (at least that is what I was told). But with the PC version, you’ll porbably have to pay a starters fee or something, that way the game can make a profit. I’m not sure how that works though. Just thinking

but i still dont understand what the backgound story is like in F13
I think the background story for ff13 goes something like this: there are these people trying to take over the area of CACOON, and the main characters are trying to prevent this from happening. It’s like this new game is basically like ff12, stopping the spread of these overtakers. That’s what I understood by watching the english trailer. But the thing that gets me, is when the red-headded girl says, “the whole world is out against us.”
Also, the main character, lightning, says that saving a human is not worth risking her own life, and that she can barely keep herself alive. I guess that means that the main characters aren’t human
Hey, what’s the difference between the new PS3 lite and PS3 slim? I’ve heard about both of them coming out on September 1 in the US, and I’d like to know the difference. I did hear that the PS3 slim has 120 GB memory, uses less energy, is some % smaller, 2 usb ports. I haven’t heard anything at all about the PS3 lite, is it the same thing as the Slim, just with a different name?

i don’t play mmo’s. i hope this goes well for enix though, give blizzard a run for its money.
it will release in ps3 and pc..but it will be great if they release it in psp so many of the gamers will play it including me… :]
